These Little Things By: Fragraham Lincon Part one ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a zelda fanfic based between the time Link grabbed the master sword in Ocorina of time and when he awoke in the future. Malon is reffered to as Marin and Talon as Tarin bucause those are their correct names. They were mistranslated in the US game. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lon Lon ranch. Tarin leans on the fence laughing hard. Malon stands up with mud covering her white dress. She doesn't look very happy. Not upset though because she got dirty. She grew up on a farm and was used to that. Not even because her father was laughing so hard. But because epona wouldn't have anything to do with her. "I don't know why you have such an interest all of the sudden in taming that wild horse." Said Tarin. "I know it can be done. That fairy boy did it and he looked like he never saw a horse in his life. I can't let someone like that show me up" Said Marin. "Marin don't you know what that fairy means. He's a Kohkiry. They're one with nature. I heard they can make animals do whatever they liked." "But it didn't look like he was..." "Nevermind. You're filthy. You need to go inside and clean up." Marin held her head down and walked toward the house. Ingo watched from the inside of the barn. "They're wasting time. Don't they know time is money. How does that bumbling fool even keep this ranch in business. Some day another ranch is going to come along and put him, me, and that wildchild daughter of his on the streets begging." Ingo grabbed his pitchfork and set to work piling straw for the horses stables. He took one forkfull and as he had done always turned tossed it in the stable, and turned back to the pile. He had become so accustomed to it that he did it without looking or even thinking. He turned and struk the straw pile again but this time hit hard metal. He looked down to see what it was. He hat hit another fork. but this one was different. It was a weapon built for piercing flesh. His eyes traced up the bone handle. There he saw a man with dark skin and flaming red hair wearing black armor. "Hey don't sneak up on me like that? Who are you and whaddaya want here?" "My my what courage to speak to me in that manner. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Ganondorf King of thieves." Ingo jumped back "GANONDORF!!!!!" "Relax I'm not here to harm you. Besides. What defines a theif? Is a thief a man who persues his dreams and siezes what is rightfully his? If you believe that then strike me down." Ganondorf hands Ingo his weapon. But listen well. I think you believe that a thief is a man whom has had everything given to him and denies opportunity to those who deserve it. A man who hordes wealth to himself. The very kind you despise." Ingo looks streight at Ganondorf and drops the weapon. "I thought so. Now tell me.. ....what is it you most desire?" Late that evening, Tarin and Marin sit down to a big dinner. Outside Ingo unwraps a much smaller meal. He shivers a little in the cold night air before biting into his sandwich. The bread was a little stiff. As the letuice crunched Ingo could hear another sound. Footsteps. Before he knew it Ganondorf was standing next to him. "And why hven't you done anything yet?" "Hey I'll do it in a minute. I just preffer my confrontations on a full stomach." "How long have you been telling yourself that? How many years? You put it off untill tomorow. and tomorow. and tomorow. day to day you put it off. Let me tell you something. People can lie about the past. and the future is always uncertain. But today...Today is yours to have. all you have to do is take it. What are you going to do? Sieze the day...or live for that future which never comes." Ingo stands up. Inside... Ingo enters. Tarin looks to the door. "Ingo? Do you need something?" Ganondorf enters behind Ingo. "Tarin this man wants to buy a horse" Ingo says gesturing to Ganondorf. "We're closed come back tomorow" says Tarin to Ganondorf. Ganondorf says nothing but drops a large bag of gold on the table. Tarin looks shocked for a moment. "Right this way sir." Tarin leads Ganondorf to the stables. "Take your pick. They're all fine horses" Ganondorf walks over to a horse and extends his hand. The horse promptly bites him. He doesn't even flinch. Ganondorf pulls his hand back. He glances over to the wall where an oil lantern is hanging. He gestures at it and it promptly falls off the wall shattering and sending flame up the wall. "SAVE THE HORSES!" Yelled Tarin as he and Ingo pushed open the door and allowed the horses to run into the field. They too made their escape. "HEY YOU GET OUT OF THERE!" Yelled Tarin to Ganondorf who simply stood inside the burning barn. Tarin thought he saw a toothy smile as the barn collapsed. The flames fromt he burning building lept into the air. They The flame then began spreading and cought to the house. "MARIN!!!" Tarin yelled rushing inside. He quickly ran back out. Pulling Marin behind him shortly after the house also collapsed. The fire continued to burn it spread burning even the fences and scourching the other structures. All Tarin could do was watch and hold his daughter as their hopes and dreams vanished into the ashes. Soon it rained and the flames were extinguished. Ingo could barely keep his smile hidden. "Our life? What will we do now?" Marin said in tears. Ingo put a hand on Tarin's shoulder. "Tarin.....you can't let this get you down. Go to Kakariko. They need workers there. You could at least support yourself." "But what about Marin. There's no way I could" "I've been keeping some funds stashed away. I could try to rebuild the ranch. It would be slow and tedius. But I'll take the risk while you get back on your feet. And I'll keep a roof over little Marin's head." "You would do that for me?" "Of course. what are friends for?" Tarin knelt down and looked Marin in her teary blue eyes. "Marin sweety. I have to go away now. But Mr. Ingo is going to take care of you. okay." Marin's reply was quick and loude. "NO! I DON'T WANT YOU TO GO!" "Marin I have to. It's for your own good. I promise I'll come back. Now you be a good girl and do as Mr. Ingo tells you." "allright. But promise you'll come back." "I promise." Tarin Takes a horse and rides away toward Kakariko. No one knew for how long. Marin watched the horizon as her father rode out of view. "Now the fun starts" Said Ingo to himself. Behind Ingo appeared Ganondorf. Marin turned around "MISTER YOU'RE OKAY!" "Ganondorf smiled." He gestured toward the rubble of the ranche and space around it seemed to warp. The structures that made up the ranch one by one re-appeared as if nothing had ever happened. "Remarkable illusion Ganondorf." Said Ingo. "I almost believed it myself" Ganondorf replied with a wicked smile. "WHAT!!! YOU TRICKED US! I'M TELLING MY DADDY!" Marin yells running off but before she gets very far Ganondorf flies in front of her, grabs her by the wrist and drags her back to Ingo. "You won't be telling anyone I'm afraid?" "How are you gonna stop me. You can't keep me here. I'll just sneak out!" "Because if you leave....I'll kill the horses." "YOU WOULDN'T" "They're not irriplacible you know." Ganondorf looks to Ingo. "A fiesty one. I wonder if you can break her like those horses? You seem to have this all well in hand Ingo. I have other business to attend to right now but I will return to check up on you." Before Ingo can stop Marin from clawing at him long enough to turn and respond Ganondorf is gone. Ingo walks inside. Dinner is still on the table and still warm. "Marin go get some rest. You have a day of REAL WORK ahead of you tomorow." Ingo sits down. "As for me. I'm going to eat the kind of meal I deserve." That night the rain poured. It almost seemed in harmony with little Marin's tears as she cried herself to sleep. ---------------------------------------------------------------
