Cid: For now you'r in my care. I'm a doctor. Just call me Cid. and unfortunately Kefka is coming back. Jessie: You're care? Why? Cid: I work for Kefka. To be honest, he only employed my help so he could torture you longer. Jessie: Bastard. Cid: Hey, don't judge me. I do my best to undo the damage kefka causes. I know I sound like a hypocryt, but hear me out. Jessie: What is there to hear out. Your life's work is to be an aid to Kefka's sadistic passtimes. Don't give me that' speech. I used to have your job. Cid: NO, I'm serious. Listen. I'm a returner member. If you just hold on I can get you out. Jessie: I...I'm sorry. I didn't know. Cid: It's alright. I know it must be hard to face a man like Kefka. But stay strong. There's still a light at the end of the tunel. Jessie: I'll try. but I don't know how much longer I can hold out. Cid: I noticed the scar on yur leg. I can't imagin how you came across such an injury. Jessie: A long time ago. To put it simply a man tried to kill me. Mabey he was just clumsy or more likely he didn't have the heart and pulled back at the last moment. He nevertheles cut me all the way down my leg. It caused permanent nerve damage, and the tendons never fully healed. I can barely walk without the aid of my brace. But I won't give in easilly. I've always been a fighter at heart. Cid: That's a good way to be. Don't show him any weaknes. Kefka has no remours. If he sees a tear or hears a whimper he'll only become more vicius. Elsewhere. Sigfreid: So you want me to kill this man? Kefka: No no no! How many times do I have to tell you that you can't kill him. Just run him through a few times. Then come back and tell me what happened. I want to study him. Find his weaknesses. Sigfried: And then you pay me. Right? Kefka: yes yes. You'll get everything you've earned. Later Leo is searching Jessie's Ransacked apartment for clues as to Jessie's whereabouts. Celes enters. Leo: (Draws his sword)What are you doing here? Celes: I have a message for you. The girl is with Kefka. If you want to see her again meet Sigfreid on the east bridge tonight at midnight. Leo: I can't believe you've been reduced to this. Nothing more than Kefka's handmaid. what happened to you. You were once a great and noble general. Celes: I have to do what I'm told. I can't break the chain of command. Leo: Dammit! Why don't you try to think for yourself. Terra may be a mindless follower but you have a mind of your own. Celes: It's...more than that. I owe him so much. Leo: Guilt huh. Look no one can be blamed for what happened to him. It's not all your fault. So, you rejected his advances. so what? A lot of women have. Celes: But he seemed so heartbroken. I sometimes think that I pushed him over.....wait why am I telling you this. You're the enemy. Just do as I told you or the girl dies. Celes leaves. Back in the tower. Kefka arives. Kefka: Good job Cid. She looks good as new. Now get ready to do it all again. Cid: Please go easy on her. She may look healthy but she's still recovering. I mean if you kill her she won't be able to talk. Jessie: Yeah go ahead. You might as well because I'm not talking. Kefka: Oh, but you'll be surprized what you can live through. Uwee hee he he he. I get to use my new toys! Kefka calls in some gaurds to take Jessie away. Jessie: Kefka, You'll be surprized at how well I can handle a gun when I get out of here. That is if Leo doesn't kill you first. Jessie is taken away Kefka follows. Terra enters the room. Cid: What are you doing here. I thought Kefka's lapdog wasn't supposed to stray. Terra: I know I'm disobeying orders by being here. But I wanted to ask you something. You are a doctor so I thought you might know what's wrong with Kefka? He was once so kindhearted. I never once questioned him. I was raised to never ask questions so I didn't but as the years pass I have to wonder if supporting him was the right thing. Cid: okay Terra don't go repeating this but I know something about Kefka. Years ago, during the first super soldier program. Kefka was the first subject to survive the infusion. The emperor decided to test him. Not only testing his strength but his loyalty as well. There were reports of a returner branch working in the outskirts. Once a thriving port but after Kefka finnished it was left as the slum it was today. Now at this point Kefka was still kefka. But like you his concience ment nothing when he recieved orders he had no choice but to follow. That by the way is why all subsequent super soldiers like yourself were raised from birth to have no moral concience. But back to Kefka. He was racked with guilt about having to kill inocent civilians. Geshtall's greed didn't end there. Kefka was sent on more and more missions. He even surpassed his older brother Leo. By the time he was promoted to general the grief of his murderous actions and his mother's suicide had torn his mind apart. When a bazooka round eventually injured him he was sent to me. I took the oportunity to do a psychiatric evaluation. It was true what I had feared. When Kefka's was unable to deal with the actions he had taken, his mind created an offshoot. A split personality. When he took orders he changed from the real Kefka to a being he called the Jester. The Jester is the Kefka we know today. I'm not sure when it happened but something pushed Kefka over the edge and allowed the Jester to become the dominant mind. All that's left of Kefka now is a being of self hatred. Only a will to destroy himself and stop the Jester. Terra: So, there is no more Kefka? Then my loyalties are misplaced. The time is drawing close to midnight. Leo is runnign down the street. He sees a soldier on a morcycle. Without stoping he pushes the soldier off and takes the motercycle. Soldier: Hey! That's imperial property. Oh man I'm gonna get demoted for this. Leo rides up to the east bridge. Sigfried is waiting. Sigfried: I was begining to think you wouldn't show. I see you're a bike enthusiast too. (walks around a corner and brings out his own motorcycle.) Get on. This will make things more interesting. sigfried gets on his bike and draws his sword as does Leo. They charge each other. Their swords collide. Each is barely able to keep a grip on the blade after the shock of impact. They turn around and charge again. This time Sigfried loses his grip on his sword. Leo stops and catches it. They both get off. Sigfreid grabs two more sword from his arsenal. Leo and Sigfreid exchange blows for awhile longer. Though Sigfreid is able to hit Leo the blows are inefective. Leo catches an opening in Sigfreid's defense and brings both swords down over Sigfreid's face leaving two vertical cuts on his face just below the eyes. Sigfreid: AAAAgggghhh! You bastard! Leo: You look like me now. Take that shameful mark back to your master. Sigfried Gets up and turns away. The crow begins to squak at Leo. His thoughs become twisted and the hate can be seen in his eyes. He takes out a gun and shoots Sigfreid in the back. Sigfreid falls from the bridge and sinks to the botom of the river. At some distance Vicks is watching through binoculars. Vicks: That bird is always with him. Later. The tower balcony. Kefka: Hmmm. The crow you say. I wonder. could that be the source of it's power. yes that has to be it. That's what brought him back. The crow is the spirit of vengence. I suppose this means I won't have to interigate the girl anymore. Too bad. I was having fun. Oh well. She may still be useful as a psychological tactic. Thank you Vicks. You should be rewarded. Vicks: Just doing my job. Kefka: (Pats Vicks on the back) No seriosly. Look out there. All you can see will be yours. I think that's only fair. Vicks: You mean it? Kefka: Sure all you can see. (Pushes Vicks from the ledge) Yes that whole patch of ground your face hit. Uwee he he he he! GAURDS! Bring me the girl. A few moments later. Kefka: Celes said that Leo seemed pretty pissed when I grabbed you. I wonder how he would feel if....... Leo stands looking at the tower. The propaganda speakers come on. Kefka's voice: Come on in Leo. The doors are open. Someone here is dying to meet you. Jessie's voice: Leo Don't! Kekfa: Hey that wasn't in the script! (Sound of someone being hit) Kefka: Ooh that looks pretty bad. You better get here soon. I don't know if she can stand this much fun. Uwee he he he he he he! Celes quarters. Terra enters Celes:(on phone) Yes He's got the gates unlocked. Something about settling an old score. But that doesn't matter. He's open to attack. Hurry Edgar. We need the returners NOW. Terra: You were talking to the returners. Celes:(Just now noticing Terra hangs up the phone)OH Terra! That wasn't what you think. Terra: No it was. But I'm not here to turn you in. I want to join. Celes: So even you lost faith in Kefka. Terra: No not Kefka. That thing out there isn't Kefka. But I thought you.... Celes: that was a long time ago Terra. Someone told me something that opened my eyes. Outside. Leo: Brother. I'm coming! A crow fic with a low body count. I hope I succeeded in living up to the reputation of Back on Earth. Now I'm going to use this space to answer some questions. Q: Who in the world is Jessie? A: Jessie was a non playable character in FF7. She is presumed dead after the upper plate fell on sector 7. I wasn't happy when that happened. Most people didn't care for her but I found her to be a very interesting character. She was generaly quiet. She did however open up around cloud. She liked to tinker with machienes which kind of made her a geek chick. Most people didn't read into the character and just associated her with Bigs and Wedge. I think only now is anyone apreciating her for being as deep a character as she was. If we're lucky she'll be reused for later FF games. Write letters to square asking for more Jessie. AND DON'T KILL HER OFF THIS TIME FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! Q: What is the crow? A: The crow is a basic idea that spans many stories. Kind of the way final fantasy does. It spans a seiries of comic books. It is probably best known for its two movie adaptations The Crow and The Crow: City of Angels. You should go and see at least the first one. It also has a series which airs on the WB network called stairway to heaven. It's not as intense as the movie but has very deep characters. It also lacks the constant slaughter of bad guys. Q: Why devote a second fanfic to the same old concept of revenge? A: if you thought that all this was about is revenge then you're obviously skimming. Read the whole thing. Q: Back on Earth is a song by Ozzy Ozbourn. Any coralation? A: yes. I got the title from the song. In fact much of My work and the origional Crow works are greatly inspired by the music. I would advize you pick up the soundtracks. Q: You write some pretty grim stuff. are you depressed? A: You'd be sad too if you sat down and listened to Aeris's theme for half an hour streight. God, that song still makes me cry. If you haven't heard it then you've never had the sweet meloncholy pleasure of having your heart ripped out by a certain white haired villain. Q: Say what? A: Actually I made that last question up. The rest are real. I figured someone would have asked by now. Q: Which did you like better FF6 or FF7? A: You sadistic bastard. How could you ask that. How the Hell could I answer that? FF6 left you with and ending that could only be replied to with "Whoa"(Kianou Reevs) FF7's ending made me say "The Hell?" Then break down in tears over the tragedy that took place in the end of disc 1. Definately more sad than FF6. Depends on what you want at the time. I have to watch the ending of ff6 agian just to cheer me up after so much as thinking about ff7. So to sum it up. If you want to to smile play FF6. If you want to hang yourself play FF7. See what you did. You made me babble incoherently again. Q: Will there be any more crow fics? A: No. But that's what I said after I wrote Back on earth. We'll see after I play FF8.
