Other Earth By: W.Bob Yankovic Background Before written history, the earth was covered entirely by land. Only rivers and small lakes provided water for the inhabitants. These inhabitants were not like the humans of today. Several races populated this world. The Minataurs of Narn, Centaurs of Rald, Lizard Men of Threllia, Gnomes of Ation, Dwarves of Kaldor, Elves of Mockba, and Humans of Gant. There were also a sect of humans that could change between human and animal form. They were very rare and usually came out of the Black Forrest of Kaldor. The people of that day balanced their lives between two opposing forces, science and magic. The people lived for countless ages in harmony until something began to change. Children began being born without the ability to control both sides. Within three generations there were only a handfull of people that could tap into the powers of both magic and science. Factions began to form among the people. Luckily a great king arose from the people. His name was Valin Blayde, a human, and due to his lineage he was able to use only science. Under his kind and just hand, the three factions calmed, and great war was avoided. The king had three sons however who were strong in the magical arts. Their names were Kris the White, Garalyn the Grey, and Phearon the Black. Kris was the eldest brother followed by Garalyn, then Phearon. They grew tired of their father and saw his reign as a falicy of justice. They believed that humans alone were superior to all other races. With a large following the brothers turned on their father with an all human army. They fought his army of combined human and sub-human races. On one great battle field the brothers met thier father head on and attacked him three on one. Phearon struck the killing blow on his own father. They routed the army of their father and killed every one of them. The three brothers set themselves up as rulers of the land and enslaved all non-human races under human rule. They ruled with an iron fist and anyone who was brave or stupid enough to speak out against them was instantly put to the sword for treason. The rule of the brothers lasted for twenty years. By that time Kris, the eldest, had changed his heart and wanted to set the sub-human races go. Phearon was enraged by this idea and threatened to kill his brother if he thought of this. The disagreement escalated until factions were forming on the sides of the two brothers. Yet, before war could erupt the sub-humans had their vengence. A great Elven sorceror named Nahira, with help from Garalyn the Grey, snuck into the castle of the Brothers and cast a spell on them that placed them in suspended animation. They were sealed in glass coffins and sent to be protected by the priests of the Grey order. More than three fourths of the human population revolted against Garalyn for his betrayal of his race and stormed the castle. Seeing that the humans were set to kill him, Garalyn combined his power with Nahira to cast a great spell. The very world they stood on began to split. Garalyn saw that it was impossible for the human opressors and the sub-humans to live in harmony. He used up most all of his power to form a new world. Then he sent all of the evil humans to it. Realizing that the only way to get to Garalyn was to use magic, the humans began to join thier power to get back. Using almost every bit of his remaining power, Garalyn drew all of the magic from the humans. The cost was great however, costing his world all known science. He fashioned the magic of the humans into three orbs, black, white, and grey, which he set into swords and flung to the corners of Other Earth. He then took up a life of solitude and was never seen again. Thus the Earth we live on today was formed. Science was left. Humans have since prospered until the present age. The technology that humans possesed turned their world into an industrial and mechanical marvel. On Other Earth though, magic flourished and great power was harnessed. Yet the people lived in simple huts and had very little in the way of technology. They relied on a way of living much like the Mideval period of Earth. Many stories have been passed down from generation to generation. Most overlook such fairy tales as fiction, little knowing that they are quite real, and living on Other Earth just behind the magical barrier Garalyn set up. This brings us to our story.
