The History of Hyrule a nonfic By: Fragraham Lincon Author's Note: I want to state that this is a work of fanfiction. The official word from Nintendo is that the 3D and 2D zelda games were never intended to be the same continuity. However it is possible to combine them. I'd like to dispel a few myths regarding Zelda first. Myth: Every Zelda and Link are the children of the characters from the previous game. Fact: Same Zelda and Link in all of the 2D games. Usually the prolauge or instruction mannual of the game refferences its placement. For example Link's awakening and link to the past. Myth: Ganon is resurected once every 100 years. Fact: Nope that was castlevania. Someone's memories failed them there. Myth: After Windwaker the oceans receded and Link to the past happened. Fact: Link to the past was never meant to in any way be part of the windwaker story. Even if it did that wouldn't make much sense. It's called Link to the past not link to the future. Myth: Link never came back from Termina. Fact: Link returned to hyrule in the ending. That being said I'll get on with the story. I try my best to remove all stains of the multiple Link theories. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Genesis Long ago three mighty goddesses Din, Farore, and Nayru decended and created the earth then departed for the heavens. Where they left the wold there was created a symbol of thier might. The Triforce symbolizing the goddesses of power, wisdom, and courage. This ultimate power was placed in the sacred Golden Land where sky shone not blue but Gold. In this world were also many creatures created. The ever young Kokiri. The warrior race of the shadows Shieka. The Fish like Zora, lords of the water. The powerful but kindhearted, rock eating Gorons. The Gerudo to whom was born but one male every century. And finally the Hylians who were blessed with great magical power, the gift of tellepathy and pointed ears to hear the words of the gods. Though to most the Hylian gifts now lie dormant there was a time that they were strong and used to forge the great nation of Hylia. This society becme radicly advanced. They were said to controll the very tides. Though this nation was plauged by war as there was constant fighting over the then open gates to the golden land which contained the all powerful Triforce. It was settled that a great imprisoning war would be fought. Seven Wise men were chosen, and to protect them all of the Hylian knights were sent. As the spell was sewn to forever close the gates to the golden land the Knights of Hylia fought against rouges who sought the golden power of the Triforce. Though their skill was great the Knights were outnumbered and most of them were killed by the time the seal was forged. With no knighs to protect it, the nation of Hylia soon fell to the surrounding wars. Only a few decendants of the knighs remained. The Wise men's decendants were hidden away. Near the end of a fifty year long war two decendants of the Hylian knights fled with their child. No on knows what happend to the baby boy's father, but his mother was badly wounded. She found the Kokiri Forest and beseeched the Great Deku Tree to Protect her child. After the mother died the child was taken in by the Kokiri and hidden from the outside world. Elsewhere a decendant of the Seven wise men appeared, Going by the name Daphnes Nohansen Hyrule. He became a great peace maker, settling the disputes between the races. To the Gorons he became sworn brother. To the Zoras he granted controll of the waters and offered his friendship. Even the Gerudo eventually found peace When their King Ganondorf Dragmire swore alliegence to him. He declared himself king of the newly united nation of Hyrule. A Hero(Zelda64/Ocorina of time) The young Princes Zelda one night recieved a prophetinc dream that led her to believe that Ganondorf would betray the King, but a young hero would come from the Kokiri forrest to protect the kingdom. In the Kokiri Forrest the child who had been left by a hylian mother was now ten years of age. His name was Link All the Kokiri Had a fairi but he had always been without one. Then one night a fairy named Navi was sent by the Deku tree to guid him. He was awakened and summoned to meet the Deku tree. That morning he set out. He met with his long time friend Saria. She conratulated him on his finding a fairy. Link Searched about and eventually borrowed the Kokiri sword. He then went to see the Keku tree. It told him of a coming evil that had placed a curse upon it. Link Entered the tree and did battle with a spider beast. THe curse was undone but the tree was too far gone to save. Before it died the Deku tree told link of the Triforce and granted him the Kokiri emerald. One of three sacred stones that could open the sealed gates to the golden land and the power of the Triforce. It also told link to go to Hyrule castle and find princes Zelda. Before He left Link met with Saria again. She gave him an ocorina. Link Said goodbye and left the forrest. Link set out and along the way met a young girl named Marin. (yes Marin. Malon and Talon are mistranslations) Link would later forge a strong bond with her but not now. He continued to the castle and there met Princess Zelda. She told him of her fears that Ganondorf would betray the King and try to take the Triforce. She then sent Link on a quest to find the two remaining stones. The Goron ruby and Zora Saphire. She also tought him a song for his ocorina that would unlock many secrets. Link was then escorted out by Zelda's body gaurd Impa who was one of the now rare Shieka. Along his way Link again met with Marin and a horse named Epona. A friendship blossomed. Link, through various tasks, forged yet another friendship with the leader of the Gorons, Darunia, and was even betrothed to the princes of the Zoras, Ruto. Though he went through many mishaps Link Returned to the castle with the remaining spirit stones. Unfortunately Ganondorf had already made his move. Princes Zelda Barely escaped and only had enough time to give Link the Ocorina of Time. After a brief confrontation with (and a savere beating at the hands of) Ganondorf, Link went on to the Temple of time in order to stop Ganondorf from taking the Trifoce. He there found the Master sword. He pulled it from the stone and opened the gates to the golden land. Unwitingly this action proved catastrophic as Gonondorf had snuck back into the castle and followed Link. He dove into the Golden land and siezed the Triforce. He made his wish th rule the world. What he did not know was that the Triforce granted the wish in relation to it's place. It was in the golden land not Hyrule. It turned the Godlen land into Ganondorf's kingdom. The dark world. After the wish was made Ganondorf could no longer hold the Triforce. His heart not being in balance tore the Triforce apart. It imbeded its self into three people. One Ganondorf who GOt the pice most important to him. THe triforce of power. Link was the second carrier and he recieved the trifoce of courage. Zelda recieved the Triforce of Wisdom. When all was said and done Link disapeared into the sacred realm and Ganondorf controlled 1/3 of the triforce. enough to rule Hyrule. Hero's return. Link would awaken seven years later. He had been asleep the whole time growing bigger and stronger. He was sent on a quest ot find the six sages who could reforge the seal and lock Ganondorf and his Triforce away forever in the dark world. Link went on a massive adventure uncovering the six sages. His old friend saria, Goron chief Darunia, Zora princess Ruto, Raru who had awakened Link, Zelda's bodygaurd Impa, and Ganondorf's second in command Naburu. He all the time was guided by a mysterious wariior name Shiek who upon the compleation of Links mission was revealed the be Zelda who had been posing as a Shieka for seven years. Unfortunatley this gave Ganondorf the oportunity to attack and take Princes Zelda along with her piece of the Triforce. Link Stormed Ganondorf's tower and challenged him. With a mighty effort through an impossibly long fight the prince of darkness was weakened enough for the Six sages to send him back into the Dark world and reforge the seal even in the past so that he could never have returned to Hyrule and his terrible rule never began. With this done Link was returned to his youth. It is unclear how much of his memory Link retains from the events that never took place. It is clear that he remembers the story of his familly as he set out over the next few years to find familly members. A side story (Majora's mask) Still young and with no place to truely call home Link continued his journeys throughout Hyrule encountering a skull kid wearing a strange mask. Link though soon found his Ocorina of time and loyal horse Epona stolen by this creature who fled into a portal. Link following would find himself in a strange world of more advanced technology, and people who looked familliar but clearly were not the people he had met in his adventures before. Looming overhead was this world's moon. Rumors were abound that it would soon fall and destroy the planet. Link having been cursed and trapped in the form of a Deku Scrub had to within 3 days find the skull kid and get back his ocorina. Succeeding in regaining his ocorina Link used the song of time to warp time back 3 days to the time of his arrival mere moments before the moon crashed into the planet. Link would repeat this process many times as he searched for a way home. Aquiring a number of different enchanted masks as well as returning to his human form Link ventured through the world of Termina. After meeting four mystical giants he returned to face the skull kid once again summoning the giants to halt the fall of the moon's descent. Learning of the skull kid's friendship with the giants Link believed he had finally won the battle. However soon the Mask its self released the skull kid revealing its own sentience. It possessed the moon and began pushing toward the planet. Link Would follow to the interior of the moon where he battled Majora's mask its self in its many incarnations. Some say Link won the battle through the use of a power even greater and more evil than Majora's mask its self. However the battle fared the result was the same. The moon's power was blown to the far end of the universe and the power left Majora's mask leaving it a useless piece of wood. Link after hearing the apology of the Skull kid returned home to Hyrule resuming his search for lost familly. Eventually Meeting with an Uncle Link found a home and lived a peaceful life never telling anyone of his adventures in Termina, memories of once being an adult in an alternate future faded. Evil's return(Link to the past) Three years later natural disasters plauged Hyrule. Then there apeared a wizard who aided the king and controlled natures Fury. His name was Agahnim. He was taken in by the king but rumors circualated that he had been abducting young girls. One stormy night Zelda's cry goes out to Link. She had been taken by Agahnim and the King had disapeared. Link's uncle being of the knight's line also heard it and asuming that it is for him he took up the familly sword and set out to the castle. Link followed closely and found his uncle mortaly wounded. With his last breath Link's uncle granted him the family sword. Link enraged tears through the castle into the dungeon and freed zelda. He follows her directions taking her to a sancuary. Link then set out in search of three pendants so that he may again unlock the master sword. The only blade that can harm Agahnim's body. He was quick to find them. In the process he stumbled through a portal and found himslef in Ganon's twisted dark world for a short time. It seemed odd that the gates would be opening again. Then he realized that Agahnim must be opening the gates. That is why he needed the princes. He took up tha master sword and just as he does he hears Zelda cry out tellepathicly. When he reaches the sancuary, Zelda is gone and here loyal sage lay dying. Link again storms the castle now heading up the spire The master sword channeling his anger into power and crushing all enemies in his way. When he found Zelda he was just in time to see Agahnim send her into the dark world and into Ganon's clutches. A duel ensued and in the end Link trumphed but not before Agahnim cast one final spell hurling Link into the dark world. Link searched throught the strange new world battling the minions of Ganon and learning from those foolish enough to stumble in. He realized that the gates of Hyrule are now wide open and that Ganon Could attack at any moment. Link Searched all over; one by one freeing the girls sent there by Agahnim and finally finding Zelda. With their combined power they opened the way for Link to challenge Ganon. Link Was though no fool. Along the way he had found an ally. A fairy who's body had been twisted by Ganon's magic whom gladly granted Link the leagendary silver arrow that could end Ganon's life. With a heroic effort Link Slew Ganon. and took his piece of the triforce. Using Ganon's, Zelda's, and his own Trifoce pieces Link assembled the Triforce and made his wish. All the death and all the war had come to disgust Link, so he wished for peace. With that the lost souls of the dark world were returned to Hyrule and the lives taken by Ganon were restored. The Dark world disapeared forever. Side track(Oracle of Seasons/Ages) No longer hiding the truth of his heroism Link was braised by Hyrule and word of his deeds spread to other kingdoms. One far off land called for Link and answering that call he set sail. Though upon saving this land Link learned a bitter truth that a phantom Ganon had been the source of the terror. Link realized that it had all been a ploy to draw him away from Hyrule while Ganon made his return unchallenged. Dreamland (Link's awakening) Link Raced home in a rickety wooden ship braving storms better left alone. This would be his undoing as lightning struck his sail causing his ship to sink. Link would be knocked unconcious as he clung to a piece of wood. During which time he had a dream of a land called koholint. He dreamt of Marin a girl strongly resembling Malon, the girl he had now fallen in love with though never told. He dreamt of terrible beasts tearing her world apart and in the end defeated them and awakened an acient spirit whom he had shared his dream with called the wind fish. Though Link's heart was heavy as he watched the world he tried to save fade into nothing. When he awoke Link was stronger in spirit. Return to Hyrule.(Zelda1) Upon his return to hyrule Link found things much different. No one knows how but Ganon had returned to life and not only that but conquered Hyrule. He contacted Impa who told him that rather than allow Ganon to take it Zelda shattered her piece of the triforce and sent the Eight pieces to locations throughout hyrule. It was up to link to find these parts and his equipment that he had left behind. Ganon's searvants made this no easy task but in the end Link Again confronted the King of Evil and sent the sacred Silver arrow through his heart. Link Knew that Ganon's trifoce of power was too dangerous to leave lying around so he sealed it in a tempe far outside of Hyrule and created a system of bariers around that temple. Only he carried the six crystal keys that would break the barrier. One last double cross(Zelda2) Link returned only to find that Zelda had been attacked in his absense by a wizard loyal to Ganon even beyond the grave. Placing a sleeping spell on Zelda the Wizard demanded the triforce of power be given to him so that he could resurect his deceased master. Link set off once again finding the temples once sacred were now infested with monsters and the minions of Ganon building around the world preparing for their master's return. Link forced his way through each temple clearing them of monsters and placing the crystals as he aided those in need on his way returning peace to the land. All six crystals placed Link raced to the temple of power where the triforce piece was stored. There he found the wizard had been following him and just as he reached the triforce chamber the Wizard ambushed him creating a specter from Link's own dark side. Link in a grueling battle fought his shadow barely winning. Though the Wizard escaped Link assembled the triforce and made his wish. Zelda was awkaned. Though now the triforce was scattered just as before. Would Ganon again return? Life in Hyrule would be peaceful it seems if the Triforce of power had resurected Ganon he was laying low. Feeling it had no more use Link shattered the triforce of courage and scattered it across hyrule hding it carefully. Zelda too broke her piec giving one part to her child to be passed down through her familly, and the other to her father the king for safe keeping. Ages later, long past the lifespans of Link and Zelda a dark shadow descended on the kingdom. With no hero arising to challenge him Ganon brought destruction on all who oposed him. The remaining descendants of the sages prayed for a hero but Ganon stole their souls to insure no one would stand in his way. The King having lived an unnatrually long life beseeched the Gods themselves to put a stop to Ganon. They did so in the most terrible way possible. A torrential flood poured down sealing away Ganon and flooding hyrule as well. The kingdom its self was sealed in time. A few survived the flood though seeking refuge on the highest mountains. In a thousand years their history would be lost. The Zora through association with the sky spirit Valoo evolved into a birdlike race called the Rito, while the Kokori becoming isolated attained more plant like forms. The Gorons despising water were seen very little after the flood and were assumed to have migrated to another land with only a few wanderers passing through the great sea. The Gerudo with no desert land to call home joined together with the hylians. Their descendants would become the Humans that populated the world. Only a few individuals retaining the long pointed ears of the Hylians and many displaying the dark skin of the Gerudo. Endless Blue (Wind Waker) One thousand years after the fall of Hyrule it was typical for children when they reached the age of 13 to be garbed in green just like Link at that age when he first defeated Ganon. One boy in particular carrying the same name upon reaching that age would have a most disturbing birthday. A string of kidnappings purpoutrated by a giant bird had been plauging the islands. Specificly kidnappings of young girls with long pointed ears. The Bird known as the Helmaroc King had abducted a young but feisty girl, named Tetra, that happened to be captain of a crew of pirates. Their pursuit lead them to Outset island where Link and his sister Aryll lived. In the confusion that followed the Helmaroc King mistook Link's sister Aryll for Tetra and flew off with her instead. Link swore he would rescue his sister and joined up with the pirates to follow. Venturing by ship to the bird's santuary Forsaken fortress Link failed in his mission catching a breif glimps of the Helmarac King's master Ganondorf before being cast into the sea. Link didn't know it at the time but he had just glimpsed the very embodiment of evil. Rescued by what appeared to be a talking boat called the King of Red Lions Link was taken to an island called Outset where it was explained to him the nature of Ganondorf or "Ganon" as he was also called. He was told that in order to rescue his sister he would need to do many things in preperation first. He began by venturing to the nearby Dragonroost Island meeting the Rito people and aiding them and their guardian spirit Valoo by defeating a monster sent by Ganondorf. He would also meet a young Rito girl named Medli whom he at the time was unaware was descented from an ancient sage. Rewarded for his bravery Link was given Din's pearl the first "Guidepost of the Gods" he would need. There was no time to rest however as Link continued south to the Forest haven where he met with the Koroks and the great Deku tree. However hearing that one of the Koroks, Makar, had fallen into the nearby forbidden woods Link set out to rescue him again finding Ganondorf's minions there. Once again successful Link was rewarded with Farore's pearl and continued on his way. Link would soon enough arrive at Greatfish Isle though his previous two successes would not be repeated. Ganondorf's minions had utterly destroyed the island and cast a curse on the great sea plunging it into an eternal stormy night. Though not all was lost as the water spirit Jabun had escaped and was hidden in Link's own home island of Outset. Link would have to meet with the pirates again before returning to outset and gaining Nyaru's pearl breaking the curse over the great sea. Placing the three pearls on three islands they summoned up an immense tower known as the Tower of the Gods. This was a sacred place intended to test would be heroes. Whoever could complete the trials would become the true hero. Link entered the tower and faced many trials before finally emerging victorious. He was transported beneth the waves deep into the sunken land of Hyrule where he aquired the sword of evil's bane the Master Sword. However the moment he pulled the sword things began to change and the land once frozen in time was returned to the natural flow. At the same time the seal blocking Ganondorf from the full extent of his power was broken as well. Link with the master sword in hand, again challenged Forsaken Fortress defeating the helmaroc King and rescuing his sister with the aid of the pirates. Though he found himself no match for Ganondorf and his sword still too weak to harm Ganondorf's body as it had lost its former power. Though with the aid of Tetra, the Rito and Valoo, Link was able to escape. With Tetra at his side Link returned to the sunken land of Hyrule in search of answers. What he learned was the truth of Hyrule, the land it once was and of its destruction. Tetra found the neclace she wore was indeed a piece of the triforce of wisdom. When the king gave to her the other triforce shard she transformed revealing who she was in a former life. None other than Princess Zelda. The King asked Zelda to remain in Hyrule while Link returned to the surface to re-empower the master sword and find a way to defeat Ganondorf. Link searched out Medli and Makar the descendants of the sages and with their aid ventured into the temples of earth and wind where the Master Sword's power was restored. With one part accomplished Link scoured the seas in search of the eight shards of the triforce of courage. Assembling it he returned to the tower of the Gods where he could once again open the portal to Hyrule. Expecting to meet with the King and Zelda he found Ganondorf had found them and taken Zelda to his tower nearby. Link with the fully powered master sword in hand ventured into Ganondorf's tower where he aquired the sacred light arrows and challenged Ganondorf. Ganondorf in anger spoke to link of the gods and the loss of Hyrule. He was heard to say "Your Gods destroyed you" insisting he was the one in the right. On the roof of the tower Link found Zelda and Ganondorf. Ganondorf again explained his point of view to link though made a sudden surprise attack on Link knocking him unconcious. Taking the triforce of wisdom and courage and combining them with his Triforce of Power Ganondorf prepared to make his wish for Hyrule to be restored under his rule. Though this would not be as the King had slipped in unnoticed and placing his hand on the Triforce before Ganondorf wished the remains of Hyrule be destroyed, that the seal be shattered and that the old world and Ganondorf with it be washed away. As the protective magic gave way to the onrushing ocean Link and Zelda made a final desperate struggle against Ganondorf who fought tenaciously even knowing that nothing could save him or his desires now. Still he fought on only being defeated when Link stabbed him through the head with the Master sword. As the ocean fell in on Hyrule Link and Zelda were protected by the power of the Triforce while the king chose to remain behind and drown with his kingdom. The old world completely gone the seeds of the future had been scattered. Link and Tetra set sail again to places unknown searching for a new land that would not live under the shadow of Hyrule. They set sail with their hopes and the wind as their guide. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
